Basic Photography Hike (SLR) $150

Michelle’s Testimonial for Active Tours from Active Tours on Vimeo.

This 3hr class is a great place to start exploring your SLR.  While on the trail in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, the world’s largest wild land within the boundaries of a major city, you’ll learn to take control of your camera and stop letting your camera make all the decisions. The class will start out at a very simple level and discuss different types of cameras, accessories, computer equipment and software necessary to further develop your photography skills.

We will then get into the specifics of what your camera is doing and how to control it to get better images. This will start to get a little more technical as we talk about the main subjects – Aperture, Shutter Speed, Exposure Compensation, ISO and White Balance. We will explain the fundamentals of how these things impact your images, along with how, when, and why you’d want to be able to control them so you’ll no longer need to leave your camera on automatic.

We keep group sizes small for an intimate learning experience while on the trail

Macro Photography Walk (SLR) $175

Our 4 hr Macro Photography Walk is all about slowing down. Shooting something up close takes a lot of patience and determination.  We’ll refresh everyone’s knowledge about Aperture, Shutter Speed, Exposure Compensation, ISO and White Balance. The closer you are to your subject, the more critical these elements are.  We’ll discuss natural lighting, diffusing and flash photography.

Date and locations vary depending on which flowers are in bloom.  Email us to be put on a waiting list for the next class!

Yosemite 3 Day – Photography Hike - May 17-19th and Nov 1st-3th $950

“Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space.”  Ansel Adams

Autumn colors come late to Yosemite National Park and the first of November is usually the peak.  Join adventure photographer Joshua Huber on a 3 day photography hiking tour of Yosemite.  Summer crowds have died down and we’re free to take our time on the trails.  It’s a bit cooler but Glacier Point and Tioga Roads are still open, so we have access to all areas of the park.  We’ll spend our days hiking and photographing the Valley from the floor as well as the Rim where some of the most exquisite photos are taken. Don’t worry about the pace! We’re all photographers and we’ll all lag behind together.  We’ll lay our heads at Curry Village under the shadow of Half Dome where luxury camping was invented. And don’t worry about the food; we’ll take care of that too.
